Strangely enough, I was playing with the layout--specifically the lead coming off the plate of the 12AY7 comprising the first gain stage for the second channel (the problem channel) to volume 2. After a couple tries, I gave up. Then I came back an hour later, and, what do you know, it was fixed! Then, I tied that lead exactly where it was...plugged back in and everything worked...until I plugged into the #2 input of the second channel, at which point the symptoms all returned, in both jacks.... weird. Anyway, I'm now going to focus on the jacks, even though I rewired everything north of the first gain stage today already. mike
