So to boost volume for leads I use an EQ pedal. However if the preamp gain on the amp is turned up high to get a distorted sound, boosting the guitar signal into it doesn't make it louder, because there's no headroom. So you need the distortion to be BEFORE the boost. For a while I used a tube screamer, then EQ pedal, but I really prefer the distortion of the amp over the distortion of the screamer. So what I need is possibly an effects loop, or possibly, switchable master volume pots in my amp!! hmmmm.
