| Doc | Re: Sovtek 12AX7LPS What I don't know for sure is if the LPS version's heater is geometrically different than the LP version. They say it is, but I haven't broken any apart to verify. The premise of lower hum is not BS, though. We twist AC heater leads, don't we? A 12AX7 exhibits lower heater induced hum with an AC supply when each half of its heater is operated in parallel, rather than in the series 12v hookup (straight across pins 4&5). So a spiral wound (counter wound helixes) heater could reduce hum induction. Until somebody breaks a couple tubes apart for inspection we won't know for sure whether LP/LPS are actually the same. If they are different, why the hell don't they just nix the straight version and build them all spiral and be done with it?? Seems to me less effort would be wasted keeping track of inventory, advertising, etc. |
