| Jim S. | Re: Fav cap value for tone stack For blackface/silverface Fender type circuits, where the tone stack is driven off the plate of the 1st gain stage, I prefer 250p/.047u/.022u with a 100K slope resistor. I think the tone is clearer and more "open sounding", with better mids and tighter bass than when using the usual Fender values. I like to use a 25K midrange pot with this, since a 10K pot would need to be set all the way up around 10 in order to give enough mids for my ears. For tweed Bassman or early Marshall type circuits where the tone stack is driven by a cathode follower, I prefer the standard 250p/.022u/.022u with a 56K slope resistor. I recommend standard values of pots as well (250K, 1Meg, 25K). You might be OK with a 500K or even 250K bass pot, depending upon how much bass frequencies the rest of the amp circuit allows through. Of course, these are only my opinions, however. |
