Re: Mesa/Boogie Nomad 55 opinions, anyone?
Andrew,

Can't speak for the Nomad 55 specifically, but I reviewed the Nomad 45 for our magazine (The Guitar Magazine, UK) and found it an impressive amp – for a modern, Swiss-Army-Knife-type all-singing, all-dancing, PCB loaded combo, anyway. It gets some of the best clean sounds I've heard yet from a Boogie, with good switching between "vintage" and "modern" type voices, and it is stunningly loud.

The 45 runs 4 x EL84s and the 55 runs 2 x 6L6s -- and I understand the 55 is even louder and punchier.

"is an amp like this likely to be loud enough by itself"?
I think you'd be hard pressed to need a LOUDER amp unless you're playing full-out, two double-stacks on 11 ear bleeding metal every night. The 45 with 1x12" was painfully loud near full blast in my studio room. Crank the 55 up past 6 or 7 and I'm sure the live sound man (or band mates) will be begging you to turn down. If you get the 2x12 it will move even more air and give the impression of even more volume.

Can't comment on reliability as I haven't used one for any long periouds. Seemed sturdily built for a non-boutique amp.

Hope this is helpful.

Cheers,

Dave

PS – I'll e-mail you the full text of the review. Soon after sending this reply, however, I'm off to a trade show in Frankfurt for three days so probably won't be able to reply further.
