BCRe: Red Knob vs Evil Twin
Hi,
I can't comment on the differences between the amps, but I can comment on my experiences with the red knobs twin's brother, the red knob Dual Showman Reverb (which is identical to the twin). I have a '93 that I have been using for several years as my outdoor venue rig. First off, it is a pcb amp and there is a lot of s#@t in there that purist ampoholics would sneer at. I use this with a Marshall V-30 loaded 4-12 cab...and get a great clean tone. The amp has lots and lots of tone tweeking features, but I hardly ever use them. the distortion channel is medicore sounding by itself. But, it has the ablility to mix the clean and distortion channel to obtain a nice "clean with drive" sound. Kinda like a Super Reverb on steriods :-) I use stomp boxes for all of the heavier distortions, as required. It seems to be a well made amp. The transformers are huge (as they should be), and the pots, sockets, hardware all seem to be durable. You should also be warned that this a very loud amp. Not something you want to use for the local coffee house gig. All in all, I have been happy with it. It has some features I don't need or want. But, I picked it up for about $400 in '96 . So, if you like the sound these can be a good deal. BTW, I only use this for the "big jobs"...I run a '67 Super Rev, '66 Pro Rev, or a Princeton reverb for the average (for me) job.
Have Fun,
BC
