| MBSetzer | Re: eric johnson's more than decent Hi All: Sorry, meant to change the title of the thread when I posted above but forgot. It's pretty obvious that Ken was ranting about how it would seem impossible for all of EJohnson's tone tweaks to have an identifiable technical explanation. I certainly couldn't explain it all, but thought I would add some details about the pedal batteries, which I had thought inconsequential until confronted with it squarely. We all know about high-end audio and the superstition that sometimes prevails for them. Not a bad idea if we can nip in the bud that type of thing becoming any more of a factor for instrument amps. Ken really didn't say anything bad, but it got worse when too many others piled on with more personal opinions. In hindsight I might have thought it more tasteful to have chosen a less inflammatory title for the thread. I myself am already recognized as a mad scientist anyway so I don't have very far to drop, but I can understand others who might not want to be associated with the likes of me at all From my point of view EJohnson is exactly the kind of guitarist I would love to demonstrate amplifiers for if I had the opportunity. Wishful thinking, but that might someday be possible despite my personal limitations: he is in Texas, cares about tone, and is regarded highly by other guitar players, and I like his playing a lot. I cannot foresee myself realistically having much to offer to players outside this narrow category any time soon. According to some that have met him casually as well as spent a bit of time with him, he is much more down-to-earth than the usual recording artist. I get the idea he would even buy an amplifier from one of the above posters if he liked the instrument, without much regard to any negative reaction they might have had to his published eccentricities, even a BAGA if it suited him. Anyway just thought I would add another 2 cents . . . anybody who had $999.98 before, you'd be a self-made thousandaire now And I am very much looking forward to hearing him live in Houston at the International Festival in less than a month, if I can possibly be there, I'll report back with my findings. I haven't seen a major recording artist live since . . . the real JPage was here with his old buddy RPlant, so its been a while but this should be worth the effort. Also anyone who wants to sign up for a short list of guitarists who COULDN'T benefit from Eric Johnson giving them a lesson or two, this could probably be archived on a 5.25inch floppy even if the disk was full to begin with. All for now, Mike *I may be a loose cannon but I'm a straight shooter* |
