That sounds like a 'cathode follower' circuit, not a cascode. A cascode is a special connection of 2 tubes where the anode of one is connected to the cathode of the other.  
The cathode should ideally sit at about half B+. If you connect the grid directly to the anode of the previous stage with no coupling cap, it is usually about right. Both stages are usually run from the same B+, around 250-300V.
