Maybe screwing in the bottom plate grounds something out and makes HIS pedal sound thin and awful. I mean, on the quest for tone wouldn't it be natural to buy about fifty of them and select which one to use for the night's gig based on the size and shape of the hall, barometric pressure, and distance from the equator? I use a rubber band around my Rat, but that's because I lost the thumbscrew and haven't got a replacement yet. Your pal, Jackie Paper
