But When someone give you a new amp off the UPS truck and tells ya to make it sound like the one his friend had changed kinda tells me they like the sound too of EL34s for marshalls. And a JTM45 is a Marshall As I say many times its what guitar..pickups ..and speakers that all make the sound. And as you have found out one little part can effect the tone in the amp.I guess our opinions fly here. But to me A Marshall is an English sound.. And they sound best to me With EL34s. If the amp is working like it should. It will have the sound your looking for. I have a 2203..and a 66 plexi 1959T They are different beasts. but love what both can do. You just don't hear many that have tried EL34s in there JTM45s It is all a matter of taste,what someone else likes might not be for me. or vice versa. But i love marshall amps...just not the tinkertoy new ones..(good word Trace) Richie{~}==:::
