Case in point: I have a bootleg of the Jeff Beck group in Boston from 1968 (I think the Tea Party). Sounds ripping, Beck-ola supreme. I visited a JB website and found pictures from that gig. The whole band was using Plush amps! Solid State no less! The real greats have their tone in their fingers. Don't worry about the gear. I really can't see the logic in someone chasing Jimi's tone. You'll never really find it.
