This amp is NOT a Soldano or even anything close. The Soldano head is a suprisingly good design, and reasonably simple. There's some component values that seem weird but hey, who's to argue with sucess. They sound great for what they are designed to do. The 5150 has too many tube stages. Then to control all this gain they had to stuff in divider networks and shunt capacitance everywhere to keep the thing managable. There's a quote that goes something like this...In nature, God doesn't use one thing more or one thing less than absolutely necessary. This amp seems like it was designed for bragging rights. "...yeah, but our amps go to 11!" Just adding another 2-cents to the pot Carl Z
