I don't much care for them at all.
Mostly it depends on what model the Boogie is. a few of the biggest problems I notice with these amps is that they do everything they can to BOOST bass through the roof. That just sounds like a yacks-butt to me! (ha,ha) Depending on the model, the filter caps are around 60uF, the cathode bypass caps are usually 22uF, the EQ caps are usually .1uF & .047uF, the coupling caps are aound .047uf or so. Now to me, and I may be alone of this topic, all these values seem a bit silly when you put them all together. There's a TON of bass every where. Then to make the amp a little mushier/buzzier/fuzzier they will use a 220K plate resistor with a 1.5K/22uF on the cathode. To me this adds to the whole mess. maybe it's just me who sees it this way. They sound "OK" at lower volume levels but when you start to crank them they get really "muddy" and "tubby." I like to make all the plate resistors 100K, I change the coupling caps to .022uF's but I'll usually leave the PI coupling caps (the ones that go to the powertubes) to .047uF's, depending on the model number I may go with .033uF's. I change the EQ section to 680pF treble cap with two .022uF caps and a 47K slope resistor. I'll usually change the first stage's cathode combos to 2.2K/1uF or .68uF. Again, a lot of it depends on what model boogie it is. WOW...I'm rambling!
They can be made to scream and clean up nice as well. It's a fun time! (ha, ha)
They are sinmilar to the JCM800, at lease I'm pretty sure it's the Mig models that are similar. Richie could answer this for sure. Trace | ||||
