I feel your PAIN!!!! i too have a crate 130 (2x12 open back combo) and it sucks..... what i used to do in high school and college was take my pratice amp (an old gorilla) run that about maxed then miked it with anywhere between 2-4 mikes front back and front angled and ran that into that into the crate on the clean channel. effects where a phaze 90 and a wha-wha pedal. got pretty good sound that way about 2 years ago i switched to useing a boss sd-1 and last year add bd-2 and ran thoses into the crate. able to get the sound i like. still useing the phaze 90 and wha- pedal i've also running the 2x12 on the left out put and a 4x12 cab on the left this added a lot of charcture the amp was missing. currently though i built a tube pre-amp and been messing around with that (also building a tube amp to replace the crate). if i knew in college what i know now when the guy offered his BF Twin reverb in trade for my Gibson SG i should have done it....that one hurts.
