OT transfomer design for a single-ended KT-88
I've been thinking about getting a transformer wound for a single-ended KT-88 design that I've built. The main reason I want to get one wound is that the only one I found that fit this kind of output section is a Hammond 1627, which sounds way too "high-fi" for a guitar amp, IMHO. As I've never really had any experience with transformer design, I have a few questions:

1.) Should I just tell the tranny mfg. what I'm doing and let them do the design work?

2.) What would be the ideal primary load impedence (there's about 425V on the plate)? From the tube chart on the KT-88, I see that they recommend 3K, but I also know that guitar amp builders play around with this a bit for tonal reasons.

3.) I know someone (I think it's R.G.) has written a lot on this subject but I can't seem to find it anymore. Could someone point me to his informative writings on this topic?

Any help, suggestions, ideas will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Don
