Thanks for your advice. I wasn't sure if I could use Orange drops as replacements for those particular caps - but you're saying those likely aren't the culprits anyway.  
 
I don't think I am expecting too much from my PR cause the distortion has a trailing buzz that muddies up and clashes with the basic tone of the amp, even with the bass all the way down. It doesn't sound horribly bad, but bad enough to know that something aint right.  
 
I really thought a recap, retube and speaker upgrade would do it. I cannot use this amp for recording and right now my solid state Tech 21 Trademark 60 does a much better overdriven Fender so I'm gigging with that instead. I would take it to a tech, but I am trying to develop my tube amp knowhow out of my innate desire to tinker, so I guess the search for the cure continues for now.....
