I was selling resistors when films first hit the market! the reason metal films appeared was for tolerances better than the std 5% - it just wasn't practical with carbon.  
Still, I agree with Albert. If a customer wants crackle and pop with poor reliability in his amp then if he's willing to pay then give it to him. Just warn him that he can't expect to have it both ways and get a guarantee that nothing will go wrong...
