jp,

After the engraving is done, they put a solution on it to "oxidise" the engraving, that gives the black look. For just a faceplate it costs around $10.00 to $15.00. For the 5F6A amp, I got the faceplate, the front grille plaque, the tube chart on the back, and the name plaque on the back panel, and a plate for a footswitch for a total of $30.00. The tube chart and rear plaque are laser cut on "stick on" stock. I provided the faceplate brass stock, and back panel, and the engraver provided the other materials for that cost. The brass stock I use is an Antique Brass kickplate for a front door, available in any hardware store. There is enough stock there to make quite a few faceplates. An 8" x 34" is about $26.00.
