| SteveR | SE operation and speaker behavior Once again, another lame question from Steve... Since there is always idle current in a single ended configuration, does this mean that the speaker is "held" at some point other than its "neutral" off position? And does SE operation also mean that the speaker will only operate in one direction from neutral, that is only in the range of neutral to extending forward but not from neutral and back? (well, unless the speaker is wired backward, but...) And last, on a slightly different note, how important is it from a design standpoint that the output be in phase with the input? I'm working on a channel switching configuration that would require one of the options to be out of phase with the input. If I'm not using any feedback from the output stage, would this be a problem? Thanks. It never ceases to amaze me how unique this discussion group is. I haven't been reading for awhile because I got laid off from my cushy QA job where I had a lot of time to be on the web. I recently got contracted to do a project working with Lego Mindstorms robots and so I'm doing lots of research on robotics, Mindstorms, bipedal-motion, programming and such. While looking for information I realized that I wanted an AmpageBBS for robotics, and Mindstorms/Technic, etc. Usenet and deja.com aren't bad, but the S/N ratio is still pretty low. This site and group are outstanding. Thanks to tboy and ted for making the site happen, (and please forgive/correct me if I've forgotten or omitted anyone else responsible) and thanks to everyone who contributes here. There is a level of wit, knowledge, intelligence, and respect that I was unable to find anywhere else on the web. (Perhaps in some Linux groups, but a command line interface will have a tendency to weed out whiners and flamers.) To those who consistently reply and have a presence here, you must have the patience of saints (or speech to text converters). Thanks for all your contributions. I have learned volumes in the short time I have been actively pursuing this avocation. Unfortunately, I'm at the point where I think I know just enough to be dangerous (Ironic that I have an irrational fear of static shock?). Thanks everyone. Gushing finished. SteveR |
