| Stephen Conner | Re: silicon is cool Hey Mikko, Thanks for telling me about the EF86 VCA circuit. I have a pile of old Mullard EF86s which I wasn't using and I'll certainly try it out. I have stopped using the compressor in my old bass rig because it made the tone suck, but the tube one might sound cool. If you want some solid-state EQ I have a couple of designs, there is a state-variable parametric EQ from an old John Linsley Hood book, and also my own design of hybrid tube/op-amp parametric EQ. The EQ from the old Studiomaster mixer is pretty good too, it only uses 2 op-amps and has treble, sweep mids and sweep bass (shelving) I have one of these mixers in my home studio and the EQ sounds great. you can see the tube/op-amp EQ at http://homepages.strath.ac.uk/~cnbp111/peq.html as well as the rest of my project amp the 'Toaster'. I'm thinking of basing my bass preamp on the Toaster preamp. See ya Steve C. |
