Re: Converting from Class AB to Class A
Thanks, Randall. Couldn't get your page to load
from the link, so I didn't take a look right away.

A related question that I've never been able to
get a satisfactory answer to - most output
transformers one sees advertised are rated in
watts without any mention of the class of
amplifier in which it is intended to be used.
I imagine most of them are rated for use in AB
designs, so if one were to attempt to use the
tranny in a class A design, of comparable power, I
guess you could expect to see some smoke fairly
quickly. Not only higher current per tube, but
more of 'em to get the same power.

Is there any way to calculate from the information
usually provided, what the current capacity of the
transformer is at a given plate voltage? Or perhaps, a rule of thumb by which a given PP transformer can be conservatively "de-rated" for use in a Class A design?

Thanks again, Steve F
