Re: Why should I not buy a Fender SuperTwin Reverb?
I owned a Fender Super Twin (not the Reverb
model) and the same comments Steve had
basically ring true. The sound is sterile
and you'll never get these things to distort
at the output stage unless you're playing
Wembley Stadium without a PA. I pulled tubes
to get less power -- doesn't make a real
difference because it's still way too
powerful. I ended up trading it in to get
a Vox AC-15 RI (not straight up). I think
I originally got the Super Twin on trade
and I got $350 for it on trade-in so they
are fairly inexpensive amps. But you pay
for what you get. I do know a lap-steel
player who uses one and it works good if
that's your application... just not a good
amp for the average guitar player. And a
BIG DITTO on what Steve said about the
distortion knob -- it sounds like your
amp is being played through a cheap transistor
radio behind a fan with a playing card stuck
in the fan guard. Easily the worst distortion
in existence. I say pass on the amp.
