rok	Re: best 12ax7's , new or old stock, used mullards the loudest and fattest combo I've found for my homebrew 5E3's are... NOS GE for 1st stage ... Sylvania long plate for 2nd ... the other 5E3 has Telefunken "flat-plate" 1st stage and Telefunken "ribbed-plate" for 2nd stage...the Tele's incidentally were also pulled out of an HH- Scott amp. I spent nearly 2 HRS. swapping IN/OUT these multitudes of pre-amp tubes that I have here!...Sovteks, Mullards, Magnavox, Raytheon, Zenith, etc , etc... the ones I've listed above were my final choices for these particular amps...Frank.
