John StokesRe: PI mod
Thank you Carlo! I was ready just getting ready to re-type the whole thing.

I would be happy to answer anyone's specific questions on that procedure. Several people have tried the mod that I know of. Of those, all report a noticible increase in volume. However, some preferred the tone of the unit in stock form, and reversed the mod (easy to do, no hacking or butchery was involved). The tone difference is explained by the fact that the very asymmetrical nature of the clipping in stock form would yield a very even-order harmonic distortion spectrum, which sounds better. The mod will give you symmetrical clipping, just like any other Fender. Hence, it will lose the particular tone the asymmetrical clipping gives you. (This very same notion of asymmetrical clipping was intentionally put into the design of Mike Fuller's "FullDrive" OD pedal, and has resulted in the thing getting very favorable reviews.) Regardless, I personally was willing to sacrifice the asymmetrical clipping to get the extra volume. YMMV.
