| Charlie Escher | Re: Bass Preamp I guess I'd start with Ampeg and Fender schematics: http://www.servtech.com/~piazza/joepage/schematics.html http://www.ampwares.com/ffg/ That'll give you plenty to ponder in terms of different tone stack schemes. I wouldn't be too put off by the 'weird" tubes in most of the Ampegs, you can either get them or work around them as needed. I've had good luck with a simple cathode follower output to drive a mixing board from a distance, but transformer output is certainly a good (albeit expensive) possibility. If you need balance output, this is the way to go, unless you want to do a hybrid circuit to save some dough. Are you thinking rack mount or some other form of case? Do you already have a chassis kicking around that would be suitable? What kind of experience do you have building turret or eyelet boards? I lucked into an old Standel chassis that's 2 rack space sized, and point to point (terminal strip) wired, which made things real easy. My SS preamp was also very easy to build, I used Radio Shack proto boards and a $30 project case with lots of room inside. I just interpolated a Fender passive tone stack in between a couple of op amp gain stages, works great. Email me if you need more details. --------------->Charlie E. |
