I've also heard good things about KT88's. I hope someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but I've been told the "mushyness" of the MV50 amps of that era is due to the power transformer, rather than the OT. If you want a good tight sound at high volume, I'd say the 100 watt MV is the way to go.
