I think it was Bruce who posted this originally.  
Set the amp up so that you can quickly and safely disconnect the filaments while the amp is on. If the hum goes away abruptly, then it's caused by the filaments. If the hum fades slowly then it's not the filaments.  
Am I remembering this correctly?
