| fet | Tubes up or tubes down? Lately I've been thinking about buying some parts and building a little tube amp head. Question: On a head-only unit, which is better: tubes up like a Marshall, or tubes suspended down like a Fender? It always seemed to me that the Fender design unnecessarily bakes all the amp innards in the rising heat from the tubes below. I seem to recall reading that Leo F. did the suspended-tube thing for a better combo-amp design. That I can see; but why suspend the tubes on a head-only unit? Thanks for your opinion... |
