I want the resistance to go (say) from 25k to 5k (or whatever) in the first half of the rotation-- adding R in parallel works the opposite way-- gives you LESS change in the first half rotation. So you might say, take the other half of the pot. But that half doesn't have R in parallel with it! (am I missing something here? I feel confused enough!) maybe going to the older scheme that has DC on the pot is better, but add caps to keep the DC out.
