| Mook | Re: reissue deluxe reverb In general, larger filter caps will decrease hum, increase bass, and make the sound "tighter". Smaller filters will allow more hum, decrease bass, and make the sound more "saggy", thus allowing an "easier" transition into distortion. In my book, DRs are MADE for bluesy power tube distortion, so I like the "regular" values Fender used for their smaller amps - Champs, DRs (Tweed and Black), Princetons, etc. Filters for these amps are generally in 16uF to 25uF. You'll have to get a *proper* schematic (go to the Fender Field Amp Guide or use Weber, Funk, or Pittman's books) to see the exact filters for the year and amp type you want. I believe a BFDR is 16uF, but don't hold me to that. But anyway any value between 16uF and 22uF will do just fine. Ampwares has 22uF @ 500V for $4 each (I think that's what they cost - don't remeber). You'll need 5 of these filter caps. DISCHARGE THOSE CAPS - LEAVE A BLEEDER RESISTOR ATTACHED. Mook |
