Charles | Some zener musings.... Guys, I saw some mention of the SwAMP-ChAMP and the use of the zener diode in it's power supply. We use a -36v zener, which seems to lower the resultant B+ about 25 to 30 volts. How come the difference, I dunno. I think those 50watters only have a 20percent tolorance. Why 50 watts? Yikes! Stupid reason - it's what I stock for other projects. Cheaper to have 1 SKU for those (right now at least...). BTW, I RATHER not lower the voltage with a zener, and the only reason it's there is for some CYA in case someone puts really crappy russkie tubes in it. We run 'em pretty hard, and those russkies don't hold up. However... the new 6V6EH's do (or seem to at least... to early to tell) And as a related aside, the new SwAMP-ChAMPs will ship with a cathode bias or fixed bias option. BTW, I've not been "away" from this place too much, just very busy and lurking. Heck, the AMPAGE is more like home than home sometimes... |
