| David | JCM601: Reducing saturation in "o/d" channel? I just had a short chat with "LT" in the chatroom; he suggested I post my query here (for which suggestion, thank you! I'm new to this site). I recently purchased a (new, no mods) Marshall JCM601. I love the sound of the clean channel (I use an '83 Strat Elite). However, I'm struggling to get the sound I want from the o/d channel. In spite of the manual's claims for "vintage distortion", it saturates way too quickly for my tastes. I have lowered the p/ups on the Strat (they were pretty low to start with), but we're not there yet. The tube configuration is 2x EL34 in the power-amp, and 4x ECC83 in the pre-amp. Now, I'm not keen to fiddle here, but are there any good suggestions for how I can get more headroom on the o/d channel? (I e-mailed Marshall about this -- but possibly not to the right address, as they don't really cater for e-mail from their website. I have had no reply yet, a couple weeks later.) Thanks for your suggestions/advice/insight! DjR |
