| Dwight | Re: Sound City 120 Thanks for the schematic. It will help a lot since I had never seen, let alone worked on a Sound City until this week. I took a look around your site while I was there, and was plesantly surprised to see my amp (1970 Marshall 1986) at the top of the page. I do not know if you had a specific reason to feature that amp, but I have had serveral Marshalls, and this one sounds the best by far. I acquired it by dumb luck, and is one of those rare find stories. A friend of mine owns a music store in Southern Minnesota. One day a guy came in with this amp which did not work, and my friend gave him $50 for it. He was going to send it to a shop for repairs, when I told him to send it to me and I would take a look at it. It turned out to be this beautiful 50w 1986 small box Marshall. Hardly any scuffs of the tolex, unmolested electronics except for the addition of a cap across one of the volume controls, and a broken plastic polarity switch. The problem was a blown .22 600v cap on the power transformer which took 15 min to fix. I asked him how much he wanted for it and he said that he did not want to sell it because he wanted a Marshall. I ended up trading him my 1959SLP reissue (retro-fitted with a Hoffman circut board)along with some cash. |
