| Psycho Bass Guy | Re: simpler question Get a good dummy load (a 250 watt 8ohm will do), a tone generator, and a scope. Monitor the output at the front of the dummy load and see what exactly is happening with a 400 Hz tone (sine wave). See if the amp is prematurely clipping or if there is any dirt in the signal. (BTW, when you crank the amp, the OT will act as a transducer and start to vibrate at the signal freq. You can hear this so don't be surprised!) Also get out the DMM and check for voltage drops and loose connections. It is not a bad idea to test all the caps and resistors to see what their actual value is. Sometimes even new parts ain't what they say they are. Look specifically at the plate load resistors because they regulate the power supply output to the tubes. Psycho |
