| ted | Re: Dumble speaker choice? Sorta half and half. We use a curvalinear cone like the EV and JBL. The JBL uses a 4" voice coil, the California uses a 2", and the EV uses a 2-1/2". A California with the large paper dome is very similar in cone surface area to the 12" EV. With the almninum dome, it is more like the JBL 120. The California uses a 60oz ceramic magnet (an AlNiCo version is in the works), the EV uses at least an 80oz, but the real weight is in the very thick plates they use. The JBL AlNiCo magnet is similar in weight to a standard 4" ring used in Blue Dogs, P12N's, etc. The weight in the JBL is the huge cast steel magnet housing (magnetic field case). So, I'd say, at best, the California is an attempt at a hybrid. Ted WeberVST |
