| pumpstein | '59 Bassman Clone - need advice Hi all, I have been asked by a friend to build a Tweed Bassman clone, using a 50's Knight/Allied 2x5881 PA amp (rated at 35 watts on the schemo) as a base. I am not as familiar as I would like to be with *which* circuit characteristics "define" that classic sound, (OK, I know about the cathode follower-driven tone stack, and as always, getting the output plate volts/bias right is important when trying to repro a circuit) - can anyone offer some '59 Bassman-specific comments re: what sort of concerns I should be focused on? I guess I'm looking for info beyond what can be deduced from the schematic. This is to be a gift to my buddy's brother, and I would really like to pull out all the stops for him. That said, he understands that we are approximating, given that we are not using authentic trannies, etc. Any advice is gratefully welcome. Apologies for not having more detailed info on the Knight; I'll post again with that info and hope that someone will offer advice. |
