| Bob | easier component swapping w/pcb Howdy, I just discovered a trick that has made small component swapping a breeze on pc boards that you would normally have to pull to do any soldering / de-soldering. While working on a two input Marshall 2204, I made note of all the resistors and caps who's values I would most likely be playing with, and then replaced them with small Vector push-in terminals, installed from the *component* side of the PCB. With the board back in place, I now have the ability to experiment with component values to my heart's content without having to pull the board each time. A happy side effect is that the possibility of shorts to the chassis is pretty much gone, since these little terminals won't fall through the holes if you get them too hot, like a wire or piece of component lead could. Also cool is that they have a little vertical groove in them to hold component leads in place while soldering. There are a few different sizes available - T28 for .062" holes, and T42 for .042" holes. They are made by Vector Electronics in Sylmar, Ca. Apologies if this is something you guys knew about all along - at any rate,I thought it was pretty neat =Bob |
