it depends.. ;-) I mean the PT has to be able to take the current load for starters.. I'd say anywhere up to the max plate diss is doable if the psu can keep up. I don't get out that far myself as I don't like the risk/reward ratio @ that end of the scale.. (&pardon my 1-H typing.. collicky kid in my other arm!) all things in moderation.. even idle current. the real deal IMO is that it depends on the load line.. the tube can exceed the max for a portion of the swing, but must come back below (to cool off).. the whole duty-cycle thing. I adjust for sound & feel; within the physical limits of the tubes. you usually dont have to go to the edge for tone imo. (ymmv) some will no doubt disagree..
