Because there will no longer be signal loss from the reverb channel into the normal channel through the 220K mix resistor and .047uF coupling cap on the normal channel's 2nd stage output (which bleeds some of this signal to AC ground via the 100K plate resistor and the power supply rail). If there's too much noise, either some gain reduction in the preamp or the addition of a pre-PI master volume control can help to tame things.
