I'm certainly not straighing you out! (ha, ha) The "metal" tones that you often hear (like the 80's metal tones) are usually a 414 half on/half off the speakers cone. Typically a Celestion Speaker.  
 
 
 
To me it's a very "metal-like" tone and sound more "harsh" than a 421 or 57 would but this is just my opinion. The 421's allow more lows and lower mids in and the 57 has a really nice mid-bump for distored guitars in general. A 414 lets A LOT of lows and highs through, especially the harsh stuff.  
 
 
 
Does your amp have that 820ohm cathode resistor on V2?
