Hey all;

"fwiw I like lower plate voltages and I think Trace does as well."

This is true Speed. I think it trims off the harsh highs of the older 4-input models and this is a pretty common complaint with many owners of those models.

"My old 50W head runs at ~430V, and I bias for 35mA generally. (nice balance between high current sustain and low current punch. I'm using an old pair of Telsa EL34's btw)."

I've heard this amp actually and it sounds really great! I liked it a lot and I believe it's all stock as well. (correct?)

"I've measured a couple of Trace's heads and his were running even lower B+. The early 70's models (pre-MV) seem to have been running around 390-400V which is really very nice sounding. Nice and "brown"."

Oddly enough I was just trying to make the amp sound more "pleasing" to my ears and that was the result! (ha, ha) I think Bruce also hears a lot of these Marshalls in the same respect. Bruce?

I think the lower voltages sound much better verses the higher voltages which also of course give you more of the "harsh" highend. Having the lower voltages allows people to actually turn up the treble pot without becoming sterial! (ha, ha)

Benjamin: There's a mess of stuff I've done to Marshalls so I have a pretty big list of stuff I've tried. What are you looking for? I seem to get mostly Marshall stuff as far as the "modding" is concerned but lately I've gotten a ton of Fender amps in.
