If you listen really close to say, "Back in Black" the tone is actually a little "coarse", almost like 6550's but not as rough. I can beleive KT88's. KT66's are usually (to my ears) smoother (like Beano). I really don't know for sure (does anyone??) but I'd be shocked if those amps were EL34 equipped..
