    Rumor has it that some of the Expresses from Ken Fischer are wired like that... It seems to me that it would be like adding a 30-50pF cap (from the parasitic capacitance) between the plate and the grid in a local feedback loop. I believe that the effect would be subtly different than if the shield was just connected to ground. (BTW the plate is basically at ground potential as far as the AC signal is concerned...)  
 
    Watch out for sparks when you plug in a guitar cable...   ;)   Just kidding! But make sure that the cable shield is not connected to the ground terminal of the input jack.

    That little "maze" connected between pins 1 and 2 always confused me a bit... why not just spend the nickel and put a real capacitor in there? But there may be more than meets the eye here...
