| Peter S | Re: OEI output transformer--anyone tried a quad of 6V6GTAs? Dutch, Not a quad- but a pair of NOS GE 6v6's. I switched the impedance selector and stuck in a 5y3 which brought my plate voltage down to 390 volts and it sounded great. I had to modify the tone stack a little and I changed the grid loads on the power tubes to 100K. These changes made the low end nice and tight, and the amp sounds Great! It sounds alot like a Tweed Deluxe, but with quite a bit more headroom, and tons of monster crunch at full blast. The amp is a Kimerik non-master volume amp with 4 inputs cathode follower driven tone stack and a long tail PI with low negative feedback and a 5F6(Not A) style presence control with the feedback resistor tied to the low end of the mid control and reversed output section. I used 820 ohm cathode resistors on all stages except the PI which got a 470. Peter |
