I've been thinking about doing something like this since you can pick up old magnavox stereo console chassis including transformers for about $50-75. Even utilizing the same output tube type you can configure them differently for the appropriate preamp circuit; low gain preamp - fixed bias, more NFB, colder bias output; high gain pre - cathode bias, less NFB, maybe lower the plate voltage. You could even go nuts and have individual effects loops, since many effect units now are dual channel. If the power tranny will handle it you could even use two different recitfiers, diodes for clean (Fender), tube for the el84s. just some thoughts. I'd say go for it and let us know how it goes. steveR
