Giggle all you want--but you are right. Added in a 100K pot in series with a 22K resistor. It did a little, but again with this control I find to stick around the original value of 100K.

The more I think about it, I don't know how simple a change it is. There is just so much gain in the preamp, interesting mentioning a Bassman. Looking at the AB165 schem follows a similiar topology. Wonder if a FB loop on that third stage would kill too much tone. I don't think KF would do anything to hamper the signal at all. Don't know, don't have a clue.

After messing with the FB resistor, tried some more tube combinations in the preamp/driver to see what would happen. Used a Strat with a Kinneman 59' in the bridge. Bridge pickup used exclusively.

5751--first two pre's
12AU7--third stage

Dropped in a 12AT7 in the driver--looses some more hair off the OD, and allows a OK clean when the guitar is dialed down to about 5-4. Digging into the strings starts to distort a bit. Still a real strong distortion when cranked--BUT, the amp seems to lose much of the harmonic richness that a AX7 has in the driver.

Tried a 12AY7 in for the first two stages. Again, the Distortion is knocked down a little, help the clean tone with the guitar backed off half considerably. Again, a good strong OD tone when cranked--little flat with the AT7 driver. With a AX7 brings back much of the harmonics to the OD tone. With a very decent clean dialable with the guitar's volume control.

Just thinking about the gains of the tubes I'm using compared to the originals--crazy. Wish I could make some sound clips. But in my original tube configuration it reminds me very much of the 80's Arena Rock tone. Very good, precise--but won't do hard rock or metal at all.

Reminds me, wasn't Allesandro one of Fischer pupils way back. I seem to recall that, and makes sense with his redbone preamp topology?
