Personally haven't tried two different types of caps in my clone yet--on my list of things to do. But one thing on did on my clone was add a pot inline with the resistor to ground between the 2nd and 3rd stage. This helps in dialing in that resistor.

I used a 25K pot inline with a 120K resistor to ground. I found I like to run the latest version with about 135K-145K of resistance to ground. Too small a resistor and the amp sounds flat, lifeless. If the value gets to big it get overly bright and harsh(w/ a 150K resistor replacing the 120K).

My first attempt was in the Bass channel of a Bassman head, sounds really good but reacts really differently to a actual clone. My actual clone isn't as reactive to this resistor as the Bassman, but the results are there.

If your interested to try it again, use a 120K resistor with a 50K pot(Better choice than the 25K IMHO). Start with the lowest resistance setting, and start turning the pot up. With my Bassman's Bass channel there was Clearly a hump where the amp came alive, then moved into the brighter harsher tone. My actual clone doesn't have this hump, moves into and out of the sweet area smoother, much trickier to dial in.

Anyway, I dubbed this a "Focus" control. Thsi post is getting long--EOM
