Personally, I love cloth covered wire, and yes it does get pricey. I never use stranded wire in my amps if i can avoid it. I typically use 18g solid for heaters, ground wires and the power supply runs, and 22g for the leads to the tubes, pots and switches. I do use the pvc wire just because it's available in a lot more colors than cloth so I can color code everything. Maybe they stopped using cloth wire because it might have contained Asbestos. Don't quote me here, it's just a guess. In the 50's and early 60's that shit wound up in eveything. They thought it was the greatest thing sliced bagged bread. Yes UL does have a website. Haven't been there in a while but I seem to remember that it was pretty lousy. Carl
