You can "bias" the heaters with a DC voltage.  
A free DC voltage is available by connecting the center tap or the virtual center tap using two 100 ohm resistors across the filament winding, to the cathode(s) of a cathode biased power tube(s).  
I think Dave Allen has a little 6-10 watt amp kit that is exactly what you are talking about, BTW.
