| kg | Re: A strange tail of in-tube noise... the noise you hear when operating into a dummy load comes from either: a) the reverb pan b) the tubes c) (and this is usually the culprit, once the other two have been ruled out) mangnetostriction in the output transformer. this is the sound of the laminations actually changing size ever so slightly as they repeatedly get assaulted by magnetic flux. you'd be surprised how loud it can be. ken |
